Khaleda attends doa mahfil for K M Obaid

milad and doa mahfil was held on Friday in the city seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of BNP standing committee member and veteran politician KM Obaidur Rahman. BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia attended the religious gathering at Chairmanbari ground at Banani after Asar prayers in the afternoon.
She took part in the milad and munajat, sitting in a special enclosure meant for women.
Obaidur Rahman's widow Prof Shaheda Obaid and his other family members greeted Begum Zia on her arrival at the venue.
Speaker Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar, Dhaka city Mayor Sadeq Hossain Khoka, former ministers and MPs, leaders of BNP and other political parties, and relatives, friends and admirers of Obaidur Rahman attended the programme.
Those who took part in the milad and doa included BNP leaders Khandaker Delwar Hossain, Khandaker Mahbubuddin Ahmed, Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, Maj Gen (retd) ZA Khan, Shah Moazzem Hossain, Inam Ahmed Chowdhury, Kamal Ibne Yusuf, Dr A Moyeen Khan, Maidul Islam, Nazrul Islam Khan, Barrister Abul Hasnat, Selima Rahman, Sarwari Rahman, JSD President ASM Abdur Rob, Workers Party chief Rashed Khasn Menon and central leader Haider Akbar Khan Rono, and Jatiya Party leaders Sheikh Shahidul Islam and Shaukat Hossain Nilu.

KM Obaid passes away

Veteran politician and BNP standing committee member KM Obaidur Rahman died at Apollo Hospital in the city at 11:35am yesterday. He was 68.
A former minister, an organiser of the Liberation War and a member of the eighth parliament, Obaidur Rahman was suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and other complications, BNP sources said.
He left behind his wife Prof Shaheda Obaid, only daughter Shyama Obaid, a host of relatives, political comrades and admires to mourn his death.
The first namaj-e-janaza of Obaidur Rahman was held at Banani Chairmanbari ground yesterday afternoon followed by the second janaza at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Speaker Jamiruddin Sircar, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Prof Badruddoza Chowdhury, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, senior BNP leaders, former ministers, former MPs and leaders of different political parties attended the janaza at the south plaza of the Sangsad Bhaban.
The third janaza was held in front of the BNP central office at Naya Paltan. BNP standing committee members, other central leaders and a large number of leaders and activists of BNP and its front organisations took part in the janaza.
After the janaza at Naya Paltan, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia placed a wreath on the coffin on behalf of the party. She also covered the coffin with the party flag.
The body of KM Obaidur Rahman was taken to Faridpur following another janaza at Baitul Mokarram National Mosque last night.
After namaj-e-janazas in Fridpur town and at Nagarkanda upazila headquarters, He will be buried at his family graveyard at village Laskardia under Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur, BNP sources said.
Earlier at noon, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia rushed to the Banani residence of KM Obaidur Rahman on receipt of the news of his death. She talked to the members of the bereaved family and consoled them. The BNP chief also offered prayer, seeking eternal peace of the departed soul.
BNP leaders M Saifur Rahman, Tanvir Ahmed Siddiqui, M Shamsul Islam, Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, M Osman Farruk, Nazrul Islam Khan and former MPs were present.
In a message of condolence, Khaleda said the country has lost a patriotic leader and veteran parliamentarian at the death of KM Obaidur Rahman.
The contribution of Obaidur Rahman to the Liberation War and establishing democracy in the country will be remembered forever, she added.

KM Obaidur Rahman is no more

A veteran politician and BNP standing committee member KM Obaidur Rahman is no more. Obaidur Rahman, also former minister and several times elected lawmaker of Faridpur-2 constituency died in the city''s Apollo Hospitals on Wednesday morning. He was 68. Family sources said Obaidur fell sick at about 11 am as his blood sugar level dropped. Immediately, he was rushed to the Apollo hospital where the on-duty physicians declared him dead at about 11.37 am. He left behind his wife Prof. Shaheda Obaid and only daughter Samaora and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death. Veteran politician and BNP standing committee member KM Obaidur Rahman died at Apollo Hospitals in the city yesterday morning. He was 68.Family sources said Obaid fell sick as he had chronic diabetes and blood pressure. His blood sugar level suddenly dropped yesterday morning. He was rushed to the Apollo Hospital where the on-duty physicians declared him dead at about 11.35 am soon after the admission.A former minister, an organizer of the War of Liberation and a member of the recently dissolved parliament, Obaidur Rahman had been suffering from chronic diabetes, high blood pressure and other complications, family sources said.He left behind his wife Prof Shaheda Obaid and only daughter Shyama Obaid, a host of relatives, political comrades and admirers to mourn his death. According to the last wishes of Obaidur Rahman, he will be buried beside his mother’s grave at their family graveyard at village Lashkardia in Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur district. Before, two namaj-e-janaza will be held at Rajendra College ground in Faridpur town and at Nagarkanda upazila.Obaid was born on May 5, 1940. He was an elected Member of Parliament from Faridpur-2 constituency as many as four times.Meanwhile, BNP advisory council member and former minister Harunar Rashid Khan Monno yesterday condoled the death of KM Obaidur Rahman.In a condolence message, he expressed deep shock at the death of Obaidur Rahman and prayed for peace of the departed soul.He also conveyed deep sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.
